Purple/red/brown??

Alright so I guess you could say out of my friends I’m known as the red-head with glasses. I’ve colored my hair every shade except bleach blonde…one day I will…one day. My favorite color has always been red and I always find myself going back to some shade of red after a few months of trying out a new color.  Recently I’ve hated being a red-head because I feel like everyone and their mother either tries to pull off the ombrè style or every red shade under the sun!   I was determined to find a different new amazing color! Then I found this:

http://stephanie-nguyen.blogspot.com/2012/04/diy-hair-color.html

I love it!! What an amazing color! Couldn’t wait to try it! Unfortunately the purple color is only a semi-permanent and I really wanted a permanent so it didn’t fade as fast. And so I was once again on a mission…took weeks! But then a friend tells me she used a box color called “chocolate cherry” and it turned out PURPLE!! not dark red as shown in the picture. So I thought what the heck I’ll give it a try. Hey if anything I’ll wait a week and just give in to the semi. Well here you go, this is what happened:

Mix it up

*Chocolate Cherry*

I generously added to my hair

I always get it all over my face! Best way to get that color out?? Just use makeup remover it’ll come right out

Horrible lighting but it actually looks purple!

And after 30 min…

No purple :(

Eh oh well…it’s actually is chocolate cherry not purple (most reviews I read also stated the color came out purple)

But no worries I still like it. I’m waiting out a few weeks for the color to fade then I’ll add the semi-perm plum purple…it’s going to be a long 2 weeks!

Feeling neglected :(

I know I know! It’s been awhile! I have no motivation right now and it’s depressing! I think it’s because I find all these pins I would love to do but then either can’t find the things I need or can’t afford it :( but I need to remind myself what the whole point of this blog is!! To show you the things from Pinterest that inspire me and the wonderful process of it all. If it doesn’t work out it doesn’t work out but that’s the point right??

So I think what will help motivate me again is a new look!! So check back later today to see what I’ve done! I’m very excited and its just what I’ve been looking for.

Colorful pins

I must admit I really hate this awkward stage of growing my hair out from an inverted bob. I feel like I have no choice but to ALWAYS have my hair up. It’s still not long enough to curl and looks like a mom haircut when straigtened >:/  Needless to say I’m always pinning my hair back either with a cute braid or a little poof. So bobby pins are always needed but I’m getting bored with the same old bronzed color.

I found this pin a while ago and decided the next time I needed to buy more bobby pins I would try this.  If you have bobby pins and nail polish this one is definitely for you!  It was so simple I couldn’t believe I hadn’t done this a long time ago. All I did to make my hair pins more fun was add some color with the millions of nail polish I already had. So here they are

So many colors I didn’t know where to start…good thing the pack comes with 60 pins!

Ok so I do have tell you about this little black tear drop thingy.  Apparently Conair thought of this awesome idea to help you open the bobby pin because its oh so hard to just slip your finger through it.  Guess what?? It doesn’t work! At all. But still thoughtful.

Oh and here’s a few pics of the bobby pins actually put to work:

So now I’ll be looking for any excuse to use these!

Finally I can stop losing my keys!

Ok so I’m very excited about this one! For the longest time I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect key holder.  All I wanted was just a cute little key holder to hang next to my door. Every where I looked all I could find were mail holders with key hooks. I couldn’t even tell you the last I actually mailed something let alone the last time I even bought a stamp. I felt I should not have to pay for a mail holder when all I wanted out of it were the key hooks!

So I FINALLY came across this pin on Pinterest! The post was showing it being used as a necklace holder. As soon as I saw it I thought it would be perfect as a key holder.

Unfortunately there is no link attached to the pin and for legal purposes I don’t want to post a picture that does not belong to me. So I guess your stuck with my attempt to describe it :/ Ok so it’s basically a piece of canvas home decor with hooks screwed into the bottom. So that wasn’t too hard! And the actually project itself was too hard either! I found a square picture frame about 5″x5″ at Marshalls for 3.99 and I already had the hooks. No idea where I got them from but I miraculously did!

All I had to do was drill 3 holes in the bottom of the picture frame (btw it was about and inch thick) and then I just screwed in the hooks.

Aww! Don’t we look so cute!

Yay!! I am actually very proud of this one! My favorite so far!! So….Anyone else want a key holder?? I seriously want to make a million more! Gahhh!! It’s so darn cute!

My not so fat greek lunch

So I really have become obsessed with greek dressing and greek food in general. Lately I’ve been on a souvlaki kick. Mainly just because the dressing is so utterly delicious!  My boyfriend and I had been dying to just make souvlaki salads at home since we’ve been craving them so much. It was absolutely impossible to find the greek dressing you get at restaurants. The food market we always go to honestly didn’t have what I like to call “real” greek dressing. Everything they sold was considered “Greek” because it had chunks of olives and feta in the dressing. Not what I really had in mind. So when I found this pin I knew I just had to try it.

http://cookingoncloverlane.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

This was the caption for the post

Greek Dressing So Good You Could Drink It Straight — 1 cup olive oil, 1 cup red wine vinegar, 2 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 2 1/2 tsp. dried oregano, 2 1/2 tsp. dried basil, 2 tsp. pepper, 2 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. onion powder, 2 tsp. Dijon-style mustard, Mix together and shake well. Store at room temperature tightly covered.

I didn’t have everything this recipe called so I just used what I had.

Instead of what the Pinterest caption said I just did 1 cup of the olive oil and white wine vinegar and 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, garlic powder, onion powder and cilantro. Then I just shook until it was mixed well and added to wrap!

Nom nom nom!!!

And just so you know I am eating this delicious wrap as we speak! I would definitely say this pin was a success! I will be making this all the time now…never again will I buy dressing.

Oh and if you wondering how those banana bread brownie/cake went?? I was told by my coworkers I’m never allowed to bring in anything else! They keep asking when I’m going to make more.

And Jillian Michaels is STILL kicking my ass every day

What ever it is, it’s DELICIOUS!

Happy Labor Day everyone!!

So today I decided to try a recipe I found via Pinterest. The caption for the pin was “banana bread brownies.”  I honestly don’t know what made me want to try them since I hate banana bread. I’m thinking it’s the fact that the word brownie was in the title and I had a few bananas that needed to be used up real soon.

Upon going to the blog I realized it was a recipe for banana bread bars not brownies :( But what the heck I’ll still give it a go. Lately when I’ve been cooking or baking I feel like I’m enough of an expert now that I can kinda do my own thing. I didn’t change this actual recipe, I just made it in 2 small pans instead of a big one (one for work and one to split with my parents) and I didn’t make the frosting. I did something a little different for that :)

Notice the peanut butter and chocolate fudge??

So I got all my ingredients…

I mixed everything together just like the recipe said

And into the oven they go!

I bake for about 25 – 30 min but I switched the pans halfway through

I really wish you could just smell this right now!!

They smelled so delicious! I could not wait to try them. But I let them cool down for about 15 min….I just couldn’t take it anymore! I just had one last little thing to do before I could taste them…

Mmmmm NOM NOM NOM!!

OK so yes I had to add some kind of topping. And to me nothing goes better with bananas than peanut butter and chocolate!!

Needless to say these are deadly! It was like lightly flavored banana cake with peanut butter frosting and a hint of chocolate fudge *DROOL* My boyfriend’s really going to hate me when I tell him these are not all for us. They are delicious, but I am still doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred as part of this blog, so I do have to try my best to actually stick to eating healthy. With these still in the house I don’t know how much longer I’ll last!

So I do highly recommend any time you have some overly ripe bananas consider making this instead of just some plain old banana bread! Check out Life’s Simple Measures for this recipe and other amazing eats!!

Something a little twisted

So today we are celebrating my moms birthday! YAY! Happy Birthday Mom! But since it’s about 81 degrees outside I definitely was not going to be straightening my thick unruly head of hair .  I thought about a braid for this post but then remembered about this one pin I’ve seen a million times and immediately knew I must try it! I’ve always wanted to try it because it just looks like a simple ponytail with a little twist to it…literally thats what it is!

http://elitedaily.com/elite/2012/minute-hairstyles/

The link to this pin has an article about 5 quick and easy hair styles. It actually says for the one I’m attempting to spice up any ponytail just twist a piece of  the ponytail around a hair tie.  Ha! Obviously with my little nub of a ponytail that’s not going to happen! So I went with the twisted side on this one.

ok so I at least straightened my bangs

On a side note I am staring another pin today but this one’s going to take 30 days before I’ll have the feedback! That’s because for 30 whole days, I’ll be doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred! Yes I actually have the DVD.  I started it in the beginning of the summer but was also working out vigorously for an hour or more a day.  That lasted a total week! Why you ask? No I did not chicken out! But I did tear my MCL :( If you don’t know what that is, it’s one of the 3 muscles that holds your knee cap together. It sucked! Dr’s orders were to not work out for 2 weeks but it still hurt after 3.  Then the inevitable happened….I got lazy! So I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to do it again!  The caption on this post says to do 30DS every day plus and hour of cardio…EVERY DAY…I don’t have time for that shit. So I’ll be doing the 30DS every day with 3 days a week of cardio (1/2 hour – 1 hr)

Oh and my starting weight??  Well I just weighted in at: 135.6 lbs! yay!! Ok so you also have to understand that it was my new years resolution this year to do ALL the things I’ve always wanted but was just had way too many excuses to not do! At the beginning of the year exactly on Jan 1, 2012 I officially weighed 155 lbs :,(  So for me weighing 135 lbs now, it is a huge accomplishment.  I figure I’ll give some feedback in a couple of weeks.  Maybe update my weight and tell you all how sore I’ve been because lets face it, Jillian Michaels is one tough cookie!  But now I must go! Off to dinner with the Momsters!

Out with the old and in with the new…

So happy Friday everyone!! I figured before I really started to get down and dirty with this whole pinning business, I decided I should at least show you some of the things I’ve done in the past. It’s not much just a few things but enjoy

Ok so this was my VERY FIRST redone pin ever. Unfortunately since this was a first, I don’t have a link for it nor did I even know you could actually click on the images and be directed to the actual sites and blogs where these amazing pins came from!

To learn how to do this I just YouTubed a tutorial for marble nails.  All you have to do is use a cup with some water in it (I used a cheap shot glass) and layer the different nail polish colors making almost a bulls eye effect. To layer I just held the brush over the water until a few drops came off. This is honestly where I had the most issues. If you don’t have enough polish on the brush it takes FOREVER to drip off and what thin layer of polish was already in the water would dry up if you didn’t layer fast enough. But any ways, once you have the bulls eye effect you can just use a tooth pick to kind of swirl the colors together. Then you dip you finger in the water and the paint should literally skim off the water onto your nail. It looked so awful after this but I did patiently wait and wait and wait until the nail polish was completely dry, then just took a ton of Q-tips around the skin to clean it up.

My opinion on this one is I liked it, it was okay. Would I do it again?  Probably, given I have the time and patience.  Although with all the other nail techniques I’ve tried since then I doubt this would take any longer.

So the next one I did was not really an exact copy.  I was hosting a jewelry party with a friend and we were trying to come up with a few food ideas. I came across a pin for lemon blueberry muffins.  Im not a big fan of blueberries…Ill eat them if they are mixed in something, but I wont go out of my way to buy them. I decided since every one loves cupcake I would make lemon blackberry cupcakes.

I found it was basically like making lemon poppyseed cake. I just followed the directions for a lemon cake mix and just tossed in a bunch of blackberries I mushed up. It was that simple and they actually turned out pretty decent.

The cupcakes on the right with all the delicious caramel and chocolate…those are my better than sex cupcakes, a very old recipe I was dying to try again. The cupcakes on the left are the lemon blackberry cupcakes. I ended up frosting them with whipped cream flavored icing and just garnishing them with a blackberry on top.

Another recipe I found was “brownie in a mug”. It was so deadly!! I think I made it every day until I was out of cocoa powder :( It was so easy too! All you do is mix everything in a large mug, microwave, and enjoy! I highly recommend trying it!

http://blog.gopromos.com/how-to-make-brownie-in-a-mug/

Another one that I started but still have yet to finish, was a canvas photo transfer!!  I absolutely loved doing this. It was so simple and so cheap! Unfortunately this is another pin that I don’t have a link for but I did google directions and pretty much every website was the same.  Ill give a little feedback on how I even came up with the idea. One of my besties is in the Military and when she returned from her deployment she came home to the good ol’ Buffalo to visit. We always seem to find ourselves getting into a photo booth, be it a mall or in this case a bar! When she returned to her base she was FINALLY approved for her apartment.  I really wanted to make her something special as a house warming present and had finally decided on a canvas photo of us.  I thought that the photo booth picture would be great since it was already in black and white. I remember one of the sites I looked at suggested using an old B&W photo for more of a vintage look.

After months of looking for a canvas that would actually fit the measurements and didnt cost an arm and a leg I actually found an 8″x 24″ canvas at Joanne Fabrics. On sale for under $5.00! I had the photo blown up at my local Kinkos and that cost about $.85.  All I needed was some Mod Podge which is very expensive but thanks to my wonderful and amazing mom, she found a generic brand for more than half the price!! As I stated before it is still not finished.  But no worries when I finish it I will be sure to post pics! So check back in maybe a week or two and I should have found at least some time to get to it!

My last post is by far my absolute favorite of alllllll time!! All I will tell you is I owe it to 2 amazingly talented ladies for having such great blogs! I first found a pin on Pinterest about a girl who made an outfit every day from all the clothes we would over look at the good will. She of course gave tribute to another talented blogger for one simple dress.  Which led me to my second amazingly talented lady.  I spent days looking through each blog and thats when I decided to also make the “pleated skirt to dress”

I have yet to wear this amazing dress because I have yet to find something important enough to wear to.  Please understand this photo does not do it justice what so ever, and in no way will I ever take credit for something so divine. If you would also like to learn how this dress is so simply made, please visit these amazing girls from the links below.  Trust me you will not regret it!

LETS DO THIS!!!!!!

First things first…I must get organized! After looking through all the wonderful things I had pinned, I became very overwhelmed. I really had only thought of my first real “pinning post” but had no idea where to go from there. So low and behold, while I was pinning this morning I came across this little gem!!

This pin was for a 52 page printable blog planner. This is a great idea to keep on track for bloggers.    Beckie created this because she couldnt find a planner that fit everything she was looking for. She made sections for what she’s currently blogging for the week, her stats, a reminder to post on other blogs, ongoing goals, and lastly, a section for new ideas.  She also has a monthly calender to log what she has already blogged about.  So far I love this pin and its exactly what I needed to help me get started!

Unfortunately I do not have a properly working printer so I decided for now I can live with a store bought weekly planner.

http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/2012/02/free-printable-blogplanner.html

Heres what I did to help me get this thing started:

First I listed all the pins I plan on trying out.  I categorized them into topics like Hair and beauty, Recipes, DIY, Major projects, and Holiday ideas.  I just wanted to make it a little easier for myself on days I’m in a hurry. This way if I wanted to just try a makeup tutorial, I can just go to hair and beauty and pick one real quick.

Once I had most of my posts listed, I started planning my weekly posts.  This was easy since I obviously only have one week :)  I made a list of the pins I’ll try this week and which days I plan on posting about them.

Once I finish a pin I will highlight it on the weekly page and in the list so I know what I’ve done…we don’t want any reposts now do we??

So there it is! My first pin redone!  No feed back to really give on this one, except the fact that I highly recommend this for fellow first timers.  Starting a blog can be scary and there’s no need to add to the craziness, so YES, YES, YES I say to this!

Hope you enjoyed this a little at least…

Keep on pinning!

Hello fellow pinners!

Hi everyone!!  So yes this is absolutely my first time blogging. I’m a little nervous and very new at this, but let me begin by telling you what this blog is all about! If you don’t already know about pinterest.com, it’s a site where people can pin everything and anything they can find on the world wide web.  I fell in love with this site because it inspired me to try new things.  After trying out a few ideas I thought it’d be nice if there were someone out there…someone….anyone who could try out these pins and let the world know if they were even worth attempting.

So after much consideration (a whole 8 hours of sitting at a desk at work) I figured, why couldn’t I be that girl?  I plan on letting everyone know all about my weekly adventures with pinterest.com.

I will be trying it all out and will let you in on the results!!

And please, if there is anything you are interested in let me know! I just might be willing to try it out for you.

Happy pinning!
